The Reno Police Department is warning about a text scam working in Northern Nevada with text messages being sent claiming you’ve won the Publisher’s Clearing House Sweepstakes.  First of all, you need to sign up for the contest to even qualify to win, and the texters seem to be oblivious to that fact, since they’re calling people that haven’t entered. You’ll know if you get a text like this because they ask for money in lieu of a bigger prize.  If you do win the Publisher’s Clearing House Sweepstakes, they usually notify you via registered mail, or they show up with a bouquet of flowers and a bunch of balloons. And, they never ask for money to claim your prize.
