Unemployment in Washoe County, Carson City and Storey County increased slightly from December to January, but is down from a year ago, according to the Nevada Department of Employment and Training. For the Reno-Sparks metropolitan area, which includes Washoe and Storey counties, unemployment reached 6.2 percent, up from 5.5 percent in December. It was 7.4 percent the previous January. Carson City’s January unemployment rate was 7.7 percent, up from 6.7 percent. It was 8.5 percent in in January 2015.
