Search and rescue crews Monday rescued a couple who became stranded in rural back country near Castle Peak, according to California Highway Patrol. The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office asked CHP Helicopter 20 to perform a search and rescue at about 4:30 p.m. A couple had called 911 for help near Castle Peak north of Interstate 80. Authorities were able to get coordinates from the call and follow tracks in the snow to find them. According to the couple, who are from San Jose, they started out Saturday morning to snow camp at Castle Peak, but the winds and snow picked up and they soon found themselves in white-out conditions. Both people are in good condition.
