Phone scammers posing as Truckee Meadows Water Authority employees are targeting customers. The scammers say water service payments haven’t been made, and threaten disconnection for non-payment. TMWA became aware of the scam this week when a local restaurant operator called to question the phone call they had just received. Andy Gebhardt, TMWA customer relations director, says the toll-free number the scammers are providing for call-back is not a TMWA number. The only valid telephone number to pay over the phone is TMWA’s main customer service number 834-8080. If you get one of these calls, take down the telephone number, refuse to make a payment, and call local law enforcement or TMWA.
