Planing a vacation trip to Lake Tahoe? The El Dorado County District Attorney’s office is warning about a Craigslist scam that’s preying on tourists. Scammers are now posting real vacation rental photos on their Craigslist ads, mostly the larger properties because they can get more money, and raking in thousands from unsuspecting visitors. In fact, there’s been 35 cases like this reported since just last October. The scammers ask you to send your money to an account at Bank of America or Wells Fargo, in the form of a wire transfer. They even build websites with fake reviews of the properties. The DA recommends never wire transferring your cash, use a credit card with fraud protection when reserving your rental, and always try to get your rental through local companies, if possible.
