State Treasurer Dan Schwartz is expressing annoyance at the filings of new briefs by opponents of the ESA program. The Southern Poverty Law Center, Mexican-American Legal Defense Fund, and the NAACP filed “Amicus briefs” in the case, and the court extended the “expedited” deadline to April 20th. Schwartz says the parents who want ESA are tired of defense funds, legal centers and other groups who show up late to protest. Opponents object to redirecting public school funds to private religious schools, and say it violates the state constitution. 5000 families have applied for the funding.
