Hundreds of low-wage workers rallied on the Las Vegas Strip, demanding lawmakers pass a $15 minimum wage. It is part of the national “Fight for Fifteen effort” which sponsored similar rallies across the country. Opponent say forcing higher minimum wages hurts job creation and could slow the recovery, but Laura Martin with the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada says poverty wages strangle the economy by keeping a large part of the population from spending money to buy things such as homes or cars.  Two different bills to raise the minimum wage died in legislative committee last year. State Senator Tick Segerblom promises to reintroduce the idea in the 2017 session.
