A fired prison guard trainee is facing a manslaughter charge, in the death of a handcuffed inmate who was killed with a shotgun. Two other guards who resigned last May were not charged, but were found to have made false statements and neglected their duty, for their part in the shooting. Attorney General Adam Laxalt says the evidence warrants the charges. Raynaldo-John Ramos fired the fatal blast that killed Carlos Perez Jr., while he fought with another inmate in a hallway. A wrongful death lawsuit has also been filed in the case.
