The Nevada Supreme Court has overturned the murder conviction of a Carson City man sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for striking and killing a teenager with a minivan. The three-justice panel determined Monday that Leonardo Cardoza should get a new trial because his trial judge failed to giver the proper jury instruction defining the elements of first-degree murder. Cardoza’s attorneys argued their client was too drunk the night of the killing to be capable of premeditated murder.
