Unemployment rates have ticked up in Nevada’s three main metropolitan areas, but the state’s main industries are all adding jobs. The Department of Employment and Training reports The jobless rate rose to 5.5 percent in the Reno area, and ticked up to 6.8 percent in Carson City. Las Vegas’ jobless rate rose to 6 percent in March. That’s up slightly from February but down 1.2 percentage points from a year ago. Regional unemployment rates are not seasonally adjusted. A week ago, the agency reported that Nevada’s overall jobless rate fell to 5.8 percent. That rate is seasonally adjusted. State economist Bill Anderson says Nevada’s economy is still faring well in spite of month-to-month volatility.
