The Reno Police Department has asked the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office to investigate a battery on a police officer incident, which resulted in a “use of force.” At about 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Reno officers responded to a battery in progress at the 200 block of Ryland Street. They found a 58 year old man had been savagely beaten by two neighbors, one of whom was armed with a hammer. Officers located the suspects, identified as 23 year old Andres Meza, and 22 year old Jacob Robert Finn, both of whom resisted arrest. Finn pushed and kicked one officer while Meza, still armed with the hammer, moved toward another officer, ignoring commands to stop. The officer struck Meza with his baton and deployed a Taser in his defense. No officers were injured during the incident. Both suspects were arrested, Meza was treated at a local hospital.
