The signs that greet highway motorists as they cross state-border entry points into Nevada will feature new designs for the first time in about two decades. Nevada officials are considering four sign designs created by high school students as part of a statewide competition. The finalists’ designs emphasize Nevada’s open spaces, beauty and cowboy tradition. The new signs are expected to go up sometime this summer. The state’s current signs showing a miner looking into the distance were authorized by the Legislature in the early 1990s.
