A former Nevada State Senator many call the “Father of the Tahoe Regional Pact” has died. Coe Swobe helped establish the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, brokering the first existing agreement between Nevada and California to help preserve Lake Tahoe.
Along with governors Paul Laxalt, and Ronald Reagan, it was a time when increased construction and development was damaging the lake’s clarity. Swobe also pushed or creating and expanding the Lake Tahoe park system, which includes Sand Harbor.
He also co-founded and served as coordinator for “Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers,” which helped hundreds of judges and attorneys face and overcome addiction. He was 87.
