A motorcycle rider is dead after a crash on Interstate 80 west of Fernley Thursday night. NHP Trooper Duncan Dauber said the crash was reported at about 8:30 p.m. on eastbound I-80 just east of Painted Rock Road. Dauber said the male rider, who was the only person on the motorcycle, went into the side guardrail and was pinned underneath it. Paramedics responded to the scene, and the motorcyclist was pronounced dead. He has not been identified. One eastbound lane of the highway was closed as the investigation got underway, causing delays in the area for several hours.
