Jobless Rate in Nevada on The Rise

While the jobless rate is down nationwide, Nevada’s unemployment rate jumped to 6.1 percent in May, with an estimated 89,100 people out of work. The national rate dipped to 4.7 percent in May. Nevada’s jobless rate rose from 5.8 percent in April to 6.1 percent in May. Gov. Brian Sandoval says he’s disappointed, but Nevada’s “robust economic development efforts” will lead to an improved picture. The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reported the average weekly wage in May was $830. A total of 10,700 people filed first-time claims for unemployment benefits.
