Firefighters were able to get a better estimate on the Hawken Fire acreage, downgrading it from 300 to about 278 acres. As of Friday at 3pm, the fire is 100% contained. Firefighters say the threat to homes is over. The blaze came dangerously close to a few homes at Hawken Road and Pronghorn Court, when it first broke out, but firefighters were able to hold it. Truckee Meadows Chief Charlie Moore credits the quick call for mutual aid resources, and an aggressive attack on this fire. As winds calmed they were able to get air resources over the fire, and worked to knock out hot spots and flareups. The cause of the fire is under investigation by Fire Marshal Amy Ray with assistance of the State Fire Marshal.
