The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is warning that a number of residents in the area have received calls from someone posing as Sheriff’s Office personnel in order to obtain money. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the scammer claims there is an outstanding warrant and that the victim must pay a fine in order to avoid arrest. The scammer then says the victim must either surrender themselves or make a payment to a specified account. Sheriff’s officials say that they will sometimes make calls to inform someone about a warrant, but will never ask for payment
