The City of Reno planned to build a new skate park at Miguel Ribera Park, with around $150,000 from the city surplus. But after hearing from skateboarders, Reno City Council’s Oscar Delgado, whose area includes Ward 3 and the park, has decided that more research needs to be done before the skate park moves forward. The skate park was going to be built much like the park in Panther Valley, out of pre-made parts, but concerns from skaters put the park on pause. They’d prefer it be made out of concrete, which lasts longer and is safer. The city plans to sit down with the parks department and skateboarders to talk about ways to fund the concrete construction with possible fundraisers, a redesign or grant opportunities to help pay for the project.
