Fire Restrictions Now in Effect

Fire restrictions take effect today in western Nevada, in the Tahoe Basin and Carson Ranger District. The restrictions ban campfires outside developed camping areas, prohibit smoking, except within a closed vehicle or developed camp or picnic area. The rules bar operating vehicles off of paved, gravel or dirt roads, restrict welding without a permit. They ban fireworks, tracer rounds and exploding targets. Open burning is also banned, and anyone operating a motor vehicle in wild land areas must have a shovel, and ax and a gallon of water in their possession.
