A fire burning on the border of Elko and Humboldt is 5 percent contained. The fire reportedly started from a lightening strike after a thunderstorm in the area, Saturday. It threatened buildings at a ranch the first day, but nothing is threatened today. The “Hot Pot Fire” is burning in a mix of federal and private land in both Elko and Humboldt counties, but mostly Elko County. It’s burning in newly planted forage from prior fires, cheat grass and general forage. Containment is expected Thursday.
