The Carson City Sheriff’s Office along with other law enforcement agencies throughout the State are conducting another Join Forces campaign for the rest of this month, focusing on Distracted Drivers.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nationally, 3,179 people were killed and 431,000 were injured in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers in 2014. It takes an average of five seconds for a person to text a message, and when you’re traveling at 55 mph, that’s enough time to cover the length of a football field blindfolded, and plenty of time for you to crash your car. Grant funding from the Nevada Department of Public Safety-Office of Traffic Safety funds the driving safety campaign.
