Reno Peppermill Wants to Leave NV Energy

Reno’s Peppermill Resort has filed an application with the Nevada Public Utilities Commission for permission to buy its electricity on the wholesale market, instead of from Sierra Pacific, NV Energy’s northern Nevada company. The Peppermill application follows applications from three Las Vegas hotel casinos and the data storage company Switch, who all want to leave the utility as retail customers as allowed in a measure passed by the 2001 Legislature. The Peppermill application says the company plans to get its electricity from Cargill Power Markets based in Minnesota. The PUC will process the application and determine the amount of the fee that will be required from the Peppermill to leave NV Energy.
