South Lake Tahoe Police say a man who wasn’t wearing his life jacket on a kayaking trip near El Dorado Beach died this week after he was found floating in the lake. 43 year old Paul Anthony Aguirre from Rio Linda, California was recreating on the lake Tuesday when his family saw Aguirre’s empty kayak, with his life jacket still on board, off shore and became concerned. SLTPD’s Marine unit was dispatched and workers at the Timber Cove Marina also helped in the search. One of the Marina workers discovered Aguirre’s body in the water a short time later, unresponsive. First responders tried to revive him, but were unsuccessful, and Aguirre was pronounced dead at the scene. SLTPD wants to remind visitors to the lake to wear your life jackets, and be aware that cold water shock can quickly set in and bind your muscles, making it almost impossible for you to swim to safety.
