NV Energy Wants Affordable Solar

NV Energy is now onboard with returning existing rooftop solar customers to older, more favorable rates. The utility filed a request with the Public Utilities Commission to “grandfather” customers who installed rooftop solar before Dec. 31st. This move comes as solar companies push ballot measure to overturn the 2015 law that authorized a rate hike, and lower payments for power sent back to the grid. The state Supreme Court will hear arguments Friday about whether that measure should qualify. The group baking that measure says grandfathering would be a relief, but thinks there’s a need for a referendum to make solar systems economical for new customers as well as the 32 thousand who would be “Grandfathered.”
