Plan to Increase Safety Along State Route 28

Nevada State Route 28 may be scenic, but safety and accessibility concerns have risen in recent years. As a result, a new walking/biking path will be added along the highway. More than two and a half million vehicles a year travel the road, including as many as 2,000 pedestrians and bicyclists on peak days. With nearly 107 crashes in the area between 2006 and 2013, the decision has been made to construct a three-plus-mile shared-use path from the south end of Incline Village to Sand Harbor State Park. An underpass will be also be added beneath the roadway to bring the path from the east to west side of the road near the Flume Trail. Two new parking areas will be created near the Ponderosa Ranch and Tunnel Creek Café.
