The Carson City Sheriff and his deputies are remembering a fallen Carson City deputy, one year after he was shot to death while responding to a domestic violence call. Sheriff Ken Furlong says a permanent steel wreath will be placed at the sheriff’s office flagpole in honor of Deputy Carl Howell. A bench dedicated to Howell will also be placed at the courthouse. 35-year-old Howell was responding to a report of domestic violence on Aug. 15, 2015 when he approached a home and encountered a 30-year-old armed suspect. The two exchanged gunfire, and both died.
