A man who has been arrested more than 60 times in the last five decades, has been convicted in the killing of a customer during a Reno bank robbery. 68-year-old Van McDuffie was convicted of bank robbery with a dangerous weapon resulting in death, and use of a firearm during a crime of violence causing death. He faces a mandatory minimum of life in prison and will be sentenced December 5. October 16, 2013, McDuffie pulled up to a Bank of America on South Virginia Street in a cab, walked in and started flashing a gun. He shot 80-year-old Bob Sperry in the chest after Sperry, told McDuffie to “Get out of here.” An off-duty police officer chased McDuffie to a nearby bus stop, where he was arrested.
