A Washoe District judge says James Biela is not entitled to new trial. Defense attorneys had argued there should have been a change of venue in the original trial in 2010, plus more DNA evidence, but the judge said those issues were not strong enough to prove “ineffective counsel.” Biela was convicted and sentenced to death for the kidnapping and murder of college student Brianna Dennison. She was abducted January 20th, 2008, while sleeping on a friends couch near the University ofNevada. The judge said at the hearing that Biela received a fair trial and denied all petitions for a new one. Biela was connected to the crime and several sexual assaults by DNA evidence.
