Rabies Warning in Washoe County

The Nevada State Animal Diseases Laboratory has confirmed five bats infected with rabies have been found in Washoe County since mid-June. In one recent case, four house pets came in contact with a rabid bat. A cat had to be euthanized and three dogs, not current with their rabies vaccinations, were given booster shots. One of the dogs, while at the veterinarian’s office, bit an attendant who was then treated for exposure. They remind pet owners to make sure their animals are current on their rabies vaccinations. Washoe County Regional Animal Services offers low-cost vaccination clinics on the first Tuesday of every month at 2825 Longley Lane from 3 pm – 7 pm.
