The Washoe County Health District has confirmed that a local woman who traveled to a country with documented Zika virus transmission, and returned to Washoe County, contracted the Zika virus. She is also pregnant. Zika causes numerous birth defects, including serious brain damage.  Phil Uliberry of the Washoe Health District says people must take the travel advisories over Zika seriously, and if they go to Zika infected countries to avoid mosquito bites.
