The Washoe County Health District says we have 5 cases of rabies that have been reported in the Truckee Meadows recently, and they’ve all been found in bats.  In one case, four animals owned by the same family came in contact with an infected bat. As a result, one of the pets, a cat, died, and the three dogs in the home has to get their rabies booster shots.  Officials say you need to make sure your pets are current on their rabies shots, and remember, the shots are not retroactive, so if you pet gets bitten by a rabid animal, and isn’t vaccinated, it’s too late.
