Brush Fire Prompts Evacuations Near Susanville

Cal Fire officials say The Willard Fire burning about seven miles southwest of Susanville on the south side of Highway 36 has burned an estimated 2,500 acres.  The fire is 5% contained. Mandatory evacuations are in place for the Gold Run area and Hidden Hills Drive and in the Cheney Creek drainage east of Devil’s Corral. Residents of the River Bench Road, and Gold Run and Susan Hills areas of Susanville are asked to closely monitor fire activity. An evacuation center is open at the Community Church of Susanville, located on Numa Road near the intersection of Cameron Way. Large animals can be evacuated to the Lassen County Fairground, on Russell Avenue in Susanville. There are more than 62 engine crews battling the blaze along with 41 hand crews, 11 bulldozers, seven helicopters and ten air tankers for more than 1,100 resources battling the fire.
