Reading Proficiency a Problem in Nevada

According to the Nevada Department of Education, less than half of Silver State students are proficient in reading, when aligned with Common Core standards, and only around a third are proficient in math. The NDE got those results from the 2016 Smarter Balanced Assessments, which are computerized tests that kids from third grade to eighth grade take. Though reading proficiency is low, Nevada’s are still higher than states like California and Montana. Nevada is one of just 15 states that uses the Smarter Balanced Assessments.
