A Silver Springs man is charged with open murder, kidnapping and arson, after human remains were found in a burned vehicle near Pyramid Lake on the road to Gerlach. 27 year old Corey Massengale, was arrested in the death of 47 year old Shannon Miller, also of Silver Springs. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office says Massengale and Miller knew each other. The incident came to light July 14 just before midnight when fire and police responded to a vehicle fire on the Gerlach Highway about 15 miles north of Nixon. Fire crews put out the fire and they found Miller’s remains in the vehicle. About 7 a.m. the next day, Washoe deputies found Massengale walking along on the highway about a mile from the fire and arrested him on unrelated charges.
