Washoe Commission Rejects Pot Facility in Spanish Springs

The reconsideration of the proposed location of a marijuana dispensary from Incline Village, to a strip mall in Spanish Springs, again drew strong opposition from neighbors. They say Eagle Canyon Road and Pyramid Highway, which is near schools, parks and libraries, is an inappropriate place for a marijuana store. Many suggested the county commission is more interested in revenue, than backing their constituents, or protecting children. Some argued the building selected is not a “separate” structure as provided for by law. Assemblyman Ira Hansen warned that the location would bring a response from the federal government, because it’s too near schools and parks. The County Commission rejected the reconsideration, but Commission Chair Marsha Berkbigler warned the county would face lawsuits over the issue.
