The ACLU of Nevada is looking into the officer involved shooting that occurred at Hug High School last week, and the questions it raises about the use of force. The ACLU has submitted a public records act request to the Washoe County School District to get more information about the circumstances that led to the shooting. They say law enforcement has a duty to use only the degree of force necessary to maintain the community’s safety. A 14 year old student who was brandishing a knife, was shot by a school police officer, and is in critical condition. The ACLU of Nevada is also troubled by reports that the child may have been the victim of bullying, and wants to know whether the school followed required procedures.
