Flood Damage in Northern Nevada

Washoe County officials spent most of Tuesday dealing with localized flooding in our streams, culverts, and drainage ditches, and they hope residents will take steps around their home to prevent water from backing up in their neighborhoods.  Most of the flood issues officials dealt with Tuesday were in the Lemmon Valley, Washoe Valley, and Steamboat Ditch areas, although they expect more neighborhoods to be impacted this week, as more rain is predicted in the Truckee Meadows through Friday.

Carson City residents are being advised, due to flooding that occurred Tuesday morning, a 100 foot section of Combs Canyon Road, and 1/8 of a mile south of the Lakeview Road intersection will be down to one lane of travel. The bad weather, saturated soil, and exposed underground utilities make the permanent repair difficult. The west side of the road is expected to be closed for about four weeks and is unsafe for travel. Local traffic is advised to use the Highway 395 to get in and out of the Lakeview subdivision when possible and remember that when using Combs Canyon Road drivers should use care and caution when approaching on-coming traffic.

Lyon County is experiencing localized flooding throughout Central Lyon County. Flooding closed several roads Tuesday. Jeff Page says all drainages are flowing water, but staying in their banks at this time. Lyon County officials urge the public to keep all flood mitigation efforts in place. Sandbag locations have been left open since the January event. Lyon County crews continue to monitor roads and drainages and will report any problems.
