A courageous Sparks Fire Captain is being recognized by “PETA” with their “Compassionate Action Award.” Phil Felder, rushed to the aid of residents in a burning apartment building February 4th—including a dog who was trapped on a flaming balcony. Felder, who was off duty at the time, spotted the fire while driving home from a charity event. He ran into the building and, because the family whose balcony was on fire wasn’t home, and no fire alarms were going off, went door to door urging neighbors to evacuate. He then climbed up to the second-floor balcony to retrieve the dog, handed the terrified animal to neighbors who had gathered below, and used a fire extinguisher to contain the fire. PETA says because of his unhesitating bravery all residents of the apartment building, including this terrified dog, are safe.
