The U.S. Marshals Service is warning of a scam where a caller tells someone they missed federal jury duty and have to pay a fine immediately to avoid going to jail. The caller poses as a U.S. marshal or deputy marshal, and drops names of real law enforcement officers or court officials to sound credible. The callers are even able to get the telephone numbers of real court or government agencies. If someone does receive a call from someone claiming they missed jury duty, they should not provide personal information or money to the caller. The U.S. Marshals Service and the federal courts do not ask prospective jurors for money or personal information.
