Hydrologists with the Natural Resources Conservation Services took their measurements at the top of Mt. Rose Highway Wednesday morning… or, they attempted to take their measurements. The snow on Mt. Rose is so dense and compacted the tube used to measure the snow depth wouldn’t pass all the way through to the ground; a first for NRCS crews. Nonetheless, they say there is 212 inches of snow at their measurement site… that’s more than 17 1/2 feet. Hydrologist Jeff Anderson says because of all this snow, the spring melt will cause Lake Tahoe to rise higher than any other spring on record.
