Looks like we’re going to fight over fluoridating water in Nevada. In the state only one county, Clark, mandates that fluoride be added to drinking water, to prevent tooth decay. Assembly member Amber Joiner has written a bill that would require counties with more than 100 thousand people to fluoridate– that’s seems specifically aimed at Washoe County. Truckee Meadows Water Authority opposes the bill over the costs, and because they’d like to see this approved by voters first, since many object to fluoridation. Critics of fluoridation say it presents health risks to some people, and doesn’t work as well at preventing cavities as supporters believe.
