Rumors about layoffs of Washoe County School District teachers, forced Superintendent Traci Davis to put out a statement Thursday morning, saying the District is facing a significant budget shortfall, and admitting difficult decisions have to be made. But Davis says those decisions have not yet been made. The district is considering larger class sizes to cut costs, but apparently hasn’t discussed layoffs. Davis’s statement says they are looking at options to avoid layoffs, including freezing all positions that are currently vacant. So far no one is talking much more about the statement, or providing details about the shortfall.
