A rare Las Vegas based hearing is scheduled today on a bill that would restrict development around National Conservation and Recreation Areas in Nevada. AB 277 is a reaction to Clark County’s approval of a large housing development overlooking Red Rock Canyon. 50 thousand people signed petitions against the development. The developer says concerns about traffic will be mitigated with a change in the plan, but Annette Magnus of Battle Born Progress says public interest should win out when development threatens the character of a National Conservation or Recreation Area. The community group “Save Red Rock,” is fighting the Blue Diamond development in the courts, and the project still has to win another vote before the Clark County Commission.
