A bill that would take funds earmarked for the preservation of the Stewart Indian School in Carson City, is running into opposition from the tribes. Assem, bly bill 285 would change the law that requires 100% of the proceeds from the sale of two state owned properties to be used for preservation of the grounds and buildings. Some of the stone structures at the Stewart Campus are in disrepair. Backers of the change say some of the money could be used to improve road access on Old Clear Creek Road, and make the remaining properties more valuable, then increase the amount that could be used to preserve buildings at Stewart.
