Payless Shoesource says it’s filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and closing at least 400 stores in 44 states, in addition to Washington DC and Puerto Rico. The good news for Nevadans is that only one store will be shuttered, the one in Gardnerville at Carson Valley Fair Shopping Center. The store recommends visiting their other store in Carson City on Topsy Lane. Texas is losing the most stores, with 66 closures planned. Payless is just the latest on the the list of big box retailers planning closures, with Staples and JC Penny also in the process due to competition from websites like Amazon.
