Be very careful around Topaz Lake. It’s so full, water is being drained into Walker River. That creates a strong whirlpool at the man made lake, that recently claimed the life of a dog.  The Chocolate Lab went in to fetch a stick, and got got in a powerful whirlpool, and apparently drowned. Douglas County Spokesperson Melissa Blosser says there is signage around the drain, and more is being added, including an orange fence to keep people and pets away.  She says they are saddened that the woman lost her dog, but adds this is the first incident like this they’re aware of.
