Amendment to Brewery Bill Could Expand Business in The Silver State

Local brewmasters are celebrating a compromise Monday in the Legislature. Assembly Bill 431 would have capped the number of businesses brewers and distillers could own in the the state at two. But a last minute amendment removed that cap and it also nearly tripled the amount of product craft breweries, distilleries, and wineries can make in a year. Currently, they are capped at 15,000 barrels a year; the amendment boosts that number to 40,000 barrels. It also increases the amount of beer or liquor that can be sold for retail on site. A second hearing has been scheduled for tomorrow.
