Two People in Custody After a Police Chase in Sparks

Two people are in custody following a police chase in Sparks Monday morning. Just before 6am, Sparks Police officers found a car with stolen license plates in the parking lot of the Rail City Casino. They set up surveillance, and tire deflation devices near the front tires in hopes of preventing a pursuit. Police watched two people leave the casino and get inside. As they moved in, the driver, 31-year-old Miguel Acuna Jr. of Reno, tried to drive away and hit two police cars and another parked car in the lot. He then headed eastbound on A Street to the dead end just short of Rock Boulevard, then abandoned the car, ran off, climbing fences and ignoring commands from officers to stop. Acuna continued across Rock and tried to get into a home on A Street, but the homeowner shut the door and locked it. Acuna continued to run and was caught in another yard a few doors down. 23-year-old Samantha Barajas, a passenger, also faces charges.
