Civil Air Patrol Searching For Missing Airplane

Members of Civil Air Patrol’s California Wing are assisting the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office in the search for a missing Socata aircraft with two people on board.  The small plane left the Truckee-Tahoe Airportjust before 4PM Monday. Family members reported the aircraft overdue Monday night when the crew didn’t arrive at Petaluma Municipal Airport.  The CAP says radar analysis and cell phone forensics are narrowing the search to a rugged area of the Sierra Nevada mountain range northwest of Truckee. CAP has one search aircraft in the air and CHP has one helicopter up.  A CAP ground team consisting of search and rescue volunteers from Palo Alto and Sacramento is also assisting in the search near Little Truckee Summit in the Tahoe National Forest.
