Wet Winter Means More Mosquitoes in Spring

With record-breaking precipitation, the Washoe County Health District is expecting increased mosquito activity. Washoe County District Board of Health Chairwoman Kitty Jung, says it’s especially important that residents take action to address potential mosquito breeding areas. It only takes a few days of warm temperatures for mosquitoes and other insects to become active. Mosquitoes can transmit disease from one plant or animal to another, including humans, so residents need to take precautions to avoid being bitten. Remove standing water or any objects that can trap or collect water around your property which make breeding grounds for mosquitoes. And use repellents when mosquitoes are active in the early morning and evening hours.
